Costa Rica Surf & Yoga Retreat FAQs

Below are answers to the most frequently asked questions. If you have further questions, please feel free to drop us a line, and we’ll get them answered!

Is airfare included?
No, clients are expected to pay for their own travel expenses. People have an option of flying to Costa Rica and arriving at Liberia or San Jose which both have international airports.

If arriving into San Jose, the best way to get into Nosara is by a 45-minute shuttle flight on a local airline, Sansa or Aerobell.   From Nosara airport, we will pick you up. Just be sure to give us your flight itinerary. The main house is a 10 minute drive away.

If flying into Liberia you can hire a van and it is a 2-1/2 hour drive to Nosara. To make a reservation for a shuttle contact  Nosara Jungle Shuttles & Transport:

How many people a week do you accept?
Full-capacity is 12 participants. Participants will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Do I have to know how to surf already?
No, Nosara has gentle enough waves. It is a great place to get a good foundation and skills as a beginner yet can still challenge more advanced surfers.

How old do I have to be?
All ages are welcome, but surfers under 18 years of age need to travel with an adult.

What do I need to bring?
Pack for a warm climate. Bring any personal items, medications, t-shirts, shorts, long-sleeve/short-sleeve rashguards, swim trunks/suits, socks, shoes, sandals, toiletries, wash cloth, towels (beach & bath), sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, daypack, flashlight, mosquito repellent, enough cash on hand to cover any domestic travel and dinner expenses through the week — and don’t forget your Passport!

Can I bring my own board?
If you fly to San Jose, Costa Rica and take a shuttle flight your board can’t exceed 7 feet. If you fly into Liberia, Costa Rica you could tie any length board on the roof rack of the shuttle (make sure to bring surfboard straps.) It is a hassle traveling with surfboards either way and it is recommended to just use our equipment.

Will I need a wetsuit?
No. However, a long sleeve rashguard is strongly recommended to avoid sun exposure. The water is mostly in the low 80’s (degrees), so a wetsuit is not needed. Sometimes there is some upwelling due to strong offshore winds and the water temperature drops a little. If you get cold really easy, you could also bring an aqua thermal or a (1 or 2mm) wetsuit top, just in case.

Do I need a Passport?
Yes, you will need a Passport. If you don’t have one, you can have one expedited in 24-48 hours. Click www.uspassportbureau.com for rush service; otherwise, visit your local US Post Office for normal service.

What is the currency of Costa Rica? Are U.S. dollars accepted?
The US dollar has long been the second currency of Costa Rica. However, outside the tourist areas most people are paid in “Colones” the local currency.  In Nosara everyone accepts American dollars.

There are banks in Nosara where you can withdraw cash but best to bring enough to last a week if that’s all the time you’re coming for.

Major credit cards are accepted by banks, most shops, and restaurants, but always ask or check for signs of on the windows of doors.
